We just love Homesat and can't imagine doing school without it. The kids have really done better for the past 2 years of using it. I can see a huge growth in them.
Our family has benefited greatly from (and been blessed by) HomeSat and we're looking forward to using this again. It's definitely worth the effort that it takes!
I have 10 kids. I haven't felt tied to the VCRs at all. The blessing that HomeSat has been to us has been well worth the time and effort.
I am very thankful for HomeSat. My family has been blessed by HomeSat. We're doing it again next year. - When I look back and see how my children have progressed, it has been so much worth it. They have learned so much that I'll make the extra effort, just like I decided that I would make the extra effort when I first decided to go with homeschooling. But it is work and that's okay because it pays off so well.
It is so refreshing to hear "Mom, Mrs. Vick really makes English easy to understand." We really struggled last year going through the A Beka Grammar and Composition 7. I had to look up definitions in other English books to try to figure out what they were saying. It is a praise to hear that the understanding is coming easily with HomeSat! - It is SO worth the time to organize taping. I LOVE HOMESAT!
Mrs. Vick really makes English easy . She really has the gift of teaching, doesn't she? As does Mrs. Alsup and Mr. Harmon and...well, I could go on and on--we just love HomeSat.
When you go to the A Beka meeting, hopefully you will get a chance to view some sample lessons. Don't just look at whether or not the courses are more advanced or rigorous, but also look at the content of the lessons. Unless A Beka has changed their tapes, the lesson is a camera set up in the back of a classroom. The BJU lessons are taped in a studio and the teacher is talking directly to your child and gets your child involved in the lessons. I love homesat being like this a lot!
I am so appreciative of HomeSat teachers who teach a broad area of subjects, plus MANY additional things I never could. I am finally feeling like I can be the good wife, mother, teacher, homemaker, and even 'older woman' that God calls me to be since I trust that the BJ teachers are doing such an excellent job.
HomeSat has been a literal Godsend for our family. I hope it will be for you, too.
My son was diagnosed ADD (he isn't Hyper) 2 years ago. He is now 9 and in our 2nd year with HomeSat. We love it.
Last year he did very well on the Iowa tests--no genius but at or above grade level in all areas.
Last year I had to pretty much stay with him through all the classes to keep him on task. This year he has been on his own.
My opinion is that he is doing MUCH better than if in a regular school and MUCH better than if I taught. He really loves the teachers and they never yell at him for wiggling around during their lessons.
Technically he could be in the 4th grade, but I classify him as 3rd. However, since reading is difficult for him, I use 2nd grade for reading, spelling and handwriting. We use 3rd for all the other classes. I have to make allowances for him because his language arts skills are not where a "regular" 3rd grader is.
I love HomeSat because we can be flexible and do 2 grades at the same time. The curriculum is God-centered and reinforces what we are trying to teach our children. It frees me up so much! The teachers are great and make it so interesting. I never have to wonder if we are covering everything. I spend a lot less time than my friends preparing lessons, choosing curriculum and wondering if I covered all subject areas.
In my opinion, GO FOR IT! You will not be disappointed.
I feel a sense of relief, knowing that the HomeSat teachers are there to help me do a good job of educating my children. I also have three children and struggled, prior to HomeSat, with spreading myself around to do proper justice to each of my commitments. We just love HomeSat. HomeSat lets me spend quality time with each of my three children.
In a nutshell, it is great! Packed full of hands-on-learning, video, slides... never boring. History is Awesome:)
Heritage/History on HomeSat is FANTASTIC! My kids and I love watching these programs.
In 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade histories, as well as the geography classes, I'm extremely impressed. Very interesting, well done. The teachers bring other materials into the class (news clips or segments of videos ...) that go with the class.
In the fourth grade history class the teacher was talking about what a circuit riding preacher was and what camp meetings were, so, instead of just telling them, she showed them parts of the video Sheffy. We get a lot of extra enrichment from BJ HomeSat!

We have 1 {child} left at home, and she is in the 2nd grade next year. We have previously used just about everything there is with our other {child}. I was looking for something to take the stress off, and found it in BJ HomeSat. Not only do I like BJU HomeSat best, but our {child} loves it.
