Digital Learning Network has been serving the needs of home educators since 1995 by distributing the BJ HomeSat K-12 content on VHS and is pleased to announce a new service the BJ HomeSat/DVD Program.
Our prerecorded lessons originated at Bob Jones University, through the BJ HomeSat service, which stands for Home Student Access Terminal. BJ HomeSat began in 1995 with six secondary classes and now offers over 70 quality class events a day through the school year.
Some of the benefits of BJ HomeSat are:
- Not a camera in the back of a classroom
- Real distance education product for home educators
- Current up-to-date content.
- BJU Press has additional texts available that may help with teaching each subject.
- No broadcast schedule to keep up with start on your schedule.
- No satellite hardware to purchase or maintain
- Low deposit requirement of $150 that covers all subjects
- E-mail class questions to subject-matter expert.
- Lab list for optional in-home, hands-on lab work (if required by your state)
- DVD subjects come with teacher handouts (reproducible for additional students in the same family). Additional copies are subject to additional fees and availability. These handouts include the following:
- K-6 Moms Minutes
- 7-12 Teacher Tips
- 9-12 BJ LINC Handouts* (tests, answers, and much more)
These include the same packets that the facilitators for BJ LINC schools receive. Please note that non-BJ LINC subjects have Teacher Tips.
BJU has earned a reputation of service to the home-educating community. For several years the University has hosted a special program in June to assist thousands of home-schoolers. Through its publishing arm, BJU Press, the University has been in the forefront in providing quality curriculum and associated materials to home educators.
HomeSat was developed at BJU in direct response to requests from home-schoolers for help in the more difficult-to-teach classes. These educators expressed a need for video courseware prepared specifically in a distance-learning format. Cost was a factor, as was giving the parent the flexibility to determine schedule and pace.
HomeSat meets those needs, making the classes available at a reasonable cost, in a format that couldn't be easier to use.
The home student using the BJ HomeSat DVD Program has the advantage of the tremendous audio-visual resources used by the BJ HELP/BJ LINC teacher. All of the field visits, demonstrations, simulations, and experiments are there for the home student and can be replayed as many times as needed to master a particular point.
The BJ LINC instructors have a wealth of tools and special teaching aids at their fingertips in the studio. Each studio is equipped with a video "overhead" projector, a videotape deck, a CD-ROM player, a high-end computer terminal, and (a favorite with visitors) an electronic pen like those used to diagram football plays on network television. Science classrooms include a "wand" camera for close-ups as well as a microscope with a video head. Additionally, the science classes have thousands of dollars' worth of equipment and specimens for demonstrations and experiments.
